MATERIALS: Consumer surplus jeans (basic cotton and elastic denim), SPR KONTI VANTAA. All materials are sp called postconsumer waste - to be more precise old worn out jeans. We have a really well working agreement with our collaborator Kontti - Every upcycled kg of denim saves large amount of already used natrualrecourses like water, earth and air.

ORIGIN is the seventh collection of MEM. 
MEM has now been developed since 2012. In these nine years I have tried and developed a variety of methods for a number of surplus materials, such as cutting waste and use of consumer surplus clothing. The collection is an ode to jeans, which I definitely admire as a material. PURE DENIM LOVE is the slogan of the collection.

"In the past I've intertwined with complex shapes, cuts and shapes - but this time I want to make it as" classical "and bring yourself in front of the material."

INSPIRATION: The name of the collection was chosen through the Instagram contest - but I had already thought of a few options. The ORIGIN name was the perfect choice ... the origin of denim. Our origin.
 
FORMS: The collection contains references to 60s and 70s eras that I have never used before as a nuance of design. It refers to the period when denim products became available to young people here in Finland. At a time when it was new, durable and fashionable. All brand names are part of the history of jeans - worldwide and here in Finland - such as VAAKSA and CAN CAN ... GENES and the like.
When I set out to design the collection, I wanted to create a surface that reflects all shades of denim - like the night sky that asks us "where are we really from? Are we stardust?" This vision also puts us in proportion to this vast continuum of time and place, and puts ourselves in some kind of relationship where we are and where we are going.

METHODS: I used a fairly simple development process for this collection. First, I designed the pieces and made rough patterns. Then I had to digitize them - and together with the SAVONIA Academy we started to create 3D versions of the songs as well. These processes ventilate more or less hand in hand. Salmi from the beginning we agreed to add these 3D versions to weecos.com product cards as well (online store).
